Welcome to your Monday edition of “Where’s the Freight?,” a free freight forecast from Trucker Tools that provides information on where demand and rates are likely to be highest and lowest over the next five to seven day period.
In today’s edition of “Where’s the Freight?,” you’ll notice that once again Texarkana, Texas, claims two spots in our Top Five Hottest Markets list. In case you didn’t know, Texarkana, Texas, is a city in Eastern Texas that has a twin city across the Arkansas border called — you guessed it — Texarkana, Arkansas. Though the cities have separate governments, they function as one integrated city. Texarkana is a major distribution point for agricultural products, which likely is why it has appeared twice in our Top Five on several occasions.
Also of note in today’s “Where’s the Freight?” is that the Edmonton, Alberta, reefer market claims the number one spot in our Top Five, making it the highest demand and likely highest rate freight market in North America in the coming week. This week, you can expect power only demand to be on the upswing in several markets in the Southeastern United States, while flatbed demand is projected to rise this week in one major Canadian market.

Where Demand Will Be High or Rising
- Texarkana, Texas, yet again will be top flatbed market in North America in the coming week. Look for flatbed demand to rise this week to/from Southwestern Ontario.
- Edmonton, Alberta, Texarkana, Texas, and Lexington, Ky., likely will be the highest demand/highest rate reefer markets over the next five to seven days.
- Demand for power only capacity will be high this week to/from Springfield, Mass. You can expect demand for power only capacity to increase in the coming week for Huntington, W. Va., Jonesboro, Ark., Decatur, Ala., and Erie, Pa.
Where Demand Will Be Low or Falling
- Yakima, Wash., is projected to be the lowest demand/rate flatbed market this week.
- Demand/rates for reefer capacity inbound to and outbound from Southwestern Ontario and Hartford, Conn., will be extremely low this week.
- You can expect extremely low demand/rates for power only capacity to/from Pendleton, Ore., and Fort Worth, Texas, over the next five to seven days. Demand for power only capacity will fall in the coming the week for Albuquerque, N.M., and Richmond, Va.
- Demand for dry van capacity to/from Edmonton, Alberta, likely will decrease this week.

- Today’s Trucker Tools data shows that these will be the five highest demand/highest rate freight markets in the coming week: 1. Edmonton, Alberta (reefer), 2. Texarkana, Texas (flatbed), 3. Texarkana, Texas (reefer), 4. Springfield, Mass. (power only), and 5. Lexington, Ky. (reefer)
- The five lowest demand/lowest rate freight markets will be: 1. Pendleton, Ore. (power only), 2. Fort Worth, Texas (power only), 3. Southwestern Ontario (reefer), 4. Yakima, Wash. (flatbed), and 5. Hartford, Conn. (reefer).
- According to FreightWaves Daily Market Update, national outbound tender volumes are down slightly today.
- This week demand for power only capacity to/from Springfield, Mass., will be six times higher than it was during the same week in 2020.
- The National Hurricane Center is projecting that Hurricane Nicholas will make landfall this afternoon or evening near Corpus Christi.
- The Port of Long Beach, the second-busiest container port in the United States, had its strongest August on record this year. The port has broken monthly cargo records in 13 of the last 14 months.
- The FMCSA plans to conduct a monthly survey for six months of approximately 1.2 million drivers and carriers to find out how the COVID-19 HOS waiver is being used.
- The recent extension of the COVID-19 waiver has a new requirement that stipulates that carriers must report use of the emergency exemption within five days of the end of each month.
