Happy Friday, truckers and carriers, and welcome to the Friday edition of Where’s the Freight?,” Trucker Tools’ free freight forecast for owner ops and trucking companies. FreightWaves is reporting today that national outbound tender volumes, which measure national demand for capacity, decreased by three percent over a two-day period this week. Despite the drop, volumes for all types of capacity currently far exceed 2019 and 2020 volumes.
You’ll notice that Texas and Kansas dominate our Top Five Hottest Markets list today, with the Texarkana, Texas, flatbed market claiming the number one spot in today’s Top Five. If you run power only, you’ll want to keep an eye on Springfield, Mass., and El Paso, Texas, in the coming week, as both markets are projected to see relatively high demand for power only capacity. This week, you also can expect to see relatively high demand for reefer capacity to/from Dodge City, Kan., and for reefer demand to increase for Tucson, Ariz., over the next five to seven days.

Where Demand and Freight Rates Are Likely To Be High or Rising
- Flatbed demand and rates to/from Texarkana, Texas, and Dodge City, Kan., will be high in the coming week. Look for flatbed demand to/from Rapid City, S.D., to increase this week.
- Reefer demand and rates for Dodge City, Kan., will be high over the next five to seven days. Reefer demand to/from Tucson, Ariz., is projected to increase this week.
- Power only demand and rates inbound to and outbound from Springfield, Mass., and El Paso, Texas, will remain relatively high over the next week. Power only demand is likely to rise this week for Phoenix, Southwestern Ontario and Fort Worth, Texas.
Where Demand and Freight Rates Are Likely To Be Low or Falling
- Flatbed demand and rates for Central Ontario are likely to be low in the coming week. Flatbed demand to/from Southwestern Ontario is projected to decline over the next five to seven day period.
- Reefer demand and rates for Billings, Mont., Vancouver, British Columbia, and Southwestern Ontario are expected to be extremely low this week. You can expect reefer demand to/from Ithaca, N.Y., to decrease in the coming week.

- This week, the five hottest markets are projected to be: 1. Texarkana, Texas (flatbed), 2. Dodge City, Kan. (reefer), 3. Springfield, Mass. (power only), 4. El Paso, Texas (power only), and 5. Dodge City, Kan. (flatbed).
- The five coldest markets likely will be: 1. Billings, Mont. (reefer), 2. Vancouver, British Columbia (reefer), 3. Southwestern Ontario (reefer), 4. Reno, Nev. (reefer), and Central Ontario (flatbed).
- In the coming week, the outbound Texarkana, Texas, flatbed market will favor fleets and owner operators by three to one.
- Demand for power only capacity to/from El Paso, Texas, this week is expected to be two times higher than it was during the same week in 2021.
- The latest Specialty Crops National Truck Rate Report from the U.S.D.A. finds significant capacity shortages in Central and Southern Florida and in Eastern North Carolina, and slight capacity shortages in Mexico crossings through Nogales, the San Luis Valley Colorado, Michigan, and Minnesota-North Dakota (Red River Valley).
- Pilot Flying J has announced that it will spend $1 billion to remodel approximately 500 of its oldest U.S. travel centers.
