What are IP masking tools?
IP masking tools, such as VPNs, can be used by fraudulent actors to hide their true location, impersonate legitimate carriers, or bypass security measures by routing traffic through different servers.
What are VOIP phone numbers?
VOIP phone numbers, which operate over the internet and can be easily obtained and linked to any location, are often used by fraudulent actors to mask their identity, create fake profiles, and evade detection.
Why is IP activity outside of North America an indicator of fraud?
Trucker Tools' platform is only used by North American carriers, brokers, and shippers. As such, most legitimate activity should originate from within North America.
How can I be alerted to potential fraud?
Customers will be alerted to potential fraudulent activity through automated email notifications, new fraud-related statuses in the Load Track portal, and TMS providers to quickly identify and address issues.
When will I be alerted to potential fraud?
When potential fraud is detected, email notifications will be triggered for customers, with immediate alerts for specific initiatives like VOIP phone number detection upon load track creation, and IP activity outside North America being flagged as soon as it occurs, such as during a location update.
What email address will receive the alert emails?
By default, the broker dispatcher contact assigned to the load track will receive the alert notification.
How will blocked activity appear to the broker?
Activity originating outside of North America, including location updates, will not be visible to brokers. They will receive an email alert and status update on the track that someone is trying to send updates from outside of North America
Why are we not blocking loads from being created with VOIP phone numbers?
Some legitimate carriers require all of their company drivers to use VOIP phone numbers, so we do not want to block these entirely. However, we will send a status update and email to alert you when a VOIP phone number is being used.
Why are we not blocking load updates coming from VPNs or data centers?
Some legitimate businesses route their user activity through a corporate VPN or data center connection for security reasons, so this information will not be automatically blocked. However, we will send a status update and email to alert you when a data center is being used to send the user activity.
What do I do if I've received a potential fraud alert?
If you’ve received a potential fraud alert from Trucker Tools, start by investigating the alert. Review the carrier and driver details, check the load's tracking history, and compare this with historical data to identify any suspicious patterns. It’s also useful to cross-check the carrier’s information with your onboarding providers for any red flags. If multiple indicators of fraud are present, further investigation may be needed. Next, contact the carrier or driver to discuss the suspicious activity, mentioning flagged indicators like VPN usage or a VOIP phone number. For added verification, request the driver upload a geotagged picture of their truck showing authority details using Trucker Tools’ document scanning feature. If the load is confirmed as fraudulent or stolen, or if concerns remain, reach out to our support team at [email protected].
