Where’s the Freight? Demand for Trucks Expected To Be High in Jonesboro, Portland, Tucson, Southwest Ontario, Rapid City

Orders for trailers in February were up
by 82 percent when compared to last year, indicating that demand for
trucks and capacity remains red hot across the nation. Major delays at U.S.
ports, a driver shortage, sky-high demand for consumer goods and a boom in new
home construction are driving freight markets and sustained demand for truck
capacity. In today’s “Where’s the Freight?” you’ll see that flatbed continues
to dominate our top five hottest markets list, while Tucson, Ariz., remains the
best reefer market in the country for truckers and carriers. Portland, Maine,
and Jonesboro, Ark., are back on our hot markets list, while demand and rates
for dry van in two Canadian markets remains extremely low.
A winter storm is expected to hit the Plains and Rockies
over the weekend, bringing significant snowfall and wind gusts to Colorado,
Wyoming and Nebraska, with as much as 36 inches of snow forecast for some

Hot Markets for Truckers, Carriers
The three hottest flatbed markets this week will be Southwest Ontario (Canada), Portland, Maine, and Rapid City, S.D. Demand for flatbed is projected to increase for Springfield, Mass., Yakima, Wash., and Lubbock, Texas.
Tucson, AZ., is projected to be the hottest reefer market in the nation for the next week. Demand for reefer capacity will increase this week for Minot, ND.
Demand for power only will be high over the next five to seven days for Jonesboro, AR. Expect demand and rates to rise in and out of Jacksonville, FL.
Cold Markets for Truckers, Carriers
Reefer demand will be to be low in and out of Hartford, Conn., in the coming week.
Demand for dry van capacity will be low over the next five to seven day period inbound to and outbound from Eastern Ontario (Canada), and Calgary, Alberta (Canada).
Savannah, GA., and Las Vegas will be two of the coldest power only markets in the country this week. Demand for power only will be falling this week for San Diego, Decatur, Ala., and Birmingham, Ala.

platforms, the top five markets for truckers this week will be: 1. Southwest
Ontario (flatbed), 2. Portland, Maine (flatbed), 3. Tucson, Ariz. (reefer), 4. Rapid
City, S.D. (flatbed) and 5. Jonesboro, Ark. (power only).
The five coldest markets for truckers in
the coming week will be: 1. Hartford, Conn. (reefer), 2. Savannah, Ga. (power
only), 3. Eastern Ontario (dry van), 4. Calgary, Alberta (dry van), and 5. Las
Vegas (power only).
Rapid City, S.D., has been one of the
hottest flatbed markets for truckers/carriers for the last six weeks in a row.
Tucson, Ariz., has been the hottest
reefer market for truckers and carriers for the last 14 consecutive weeks.
Demand for trucks in and out of Southwestern
Ontario, projected to be the hottest flatbed market this week, currently is
three times higher than it was at this same time last year.

with freight volumes up in several key Southwest, Southeast, Western and
Pacific Northwest markets.
A surge in demand for trucks outbound from Jacksonville,
Fla., will make the Jacksonville to Atlanta lane a hot one in the coming
week. Set your sights on the spot market to maximize your revenue in this lane.
Port congestion around L.A. and Long Beach means imports are being rerouted to
other West Coast ports, such as Oakland, which may make the Stockton to
Dallas a potential favorable one for truckers and carriers this week. The
Dallas freight market is still struggling to recover from February’s winter
storms. If you typically run Denver to Dallas, you’ll want to search the
spot market for loads headed to Denver over the next three to five days.
