According to FreightWaves SONAR signal data, this market favors truckers and carriers by a ratio of three to one. Also of note in today’s “Where’s the Freight?” is the appearance of Fort Wayne, Ind., on our top five hottest markets list. Fort Wayne is projected to be the top power only market for truckers over the course of the next five to seven days. Where Demand, Rates Are Projected To Be High or Rising
- Texarkana, Texas, Southwestern Ontario and Rapid City, S.D., will be the top flatbed markets for truckers and carriers in the coming week. Demand for flatbed capacity is projected to rise this week in and out of Yakima, Wash.
- Tucson, Ariz., once again is expected to be the reefer market with the highest demand this week. Look for demand for reefer capacity to increase over the next week for Yakima, Wash., and Dodge City, Kan.
- Fort Wayne, Ind., is projected to be the best power only market for truckers and carriers over the next five to seven days. Demand for power only capacity in and out of New Orleans is likely to increase this week
Where Demand, Rates Are Projected To Be Low or Falling
- Demand for flatbed is likely to decrease this week for Charleston, W. Va.
- You can expect demand for reefer capacity to be extremely low this week for Hartford, Conn., and for reefer demand to decrease this week for Winnipeg, Manitoba.
- The Jefferson City, Mo., and Jackson, Miss., power only markets will likely experience a decline in demand this week.
- Huntington, W. Va., Calgary, Alberta, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and Eastern Ontario are projected to be the least profitable dry van markets for truckers/carriers in the coming week.

- According to the latest Trucker Tools data, the five best markets for truckers and carriers over the next five to seven days will be: 1. Texarkana, Texas (flatbed), 2. Southwestern Ontario (flatbed), 3. Tucson, Ariz. (reefer), 4. Fort Wayne, Ind. (power only), and 5. Rapid City, S.D. (flatbed).
- The five worst markets for truckers and carriers over the next five to seven day period will be: 1. Huntington, W. Va. (dry van), 2. Calgary, Alberta (dry van), 3. Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (dry van), 4. Hartford, Conn. (reefer), and 5. Eastern Ontario (dry van).
- Demand for power only capacity for Fort Wayne, Ind., currently is three times higher than it was at this time in 2020.
- Fort Wayne, Ind., is home to several manufacturing facilities, including those for General Motors, BF Goodrich, Raytheon and Steel Dynamics.
- The current Texarkana, Texas, flatbed market favors truckers/carriers by a ratio of three to one, meaning that shipper demand for flatbed is far outpacing available flatbed trucks in the region.
