Where’s the Freight? Denver, Shreveport, Tucson, Fort Wayne and Texarkana Top Markets This Week

Share it:

Welcome to your Monday edition of Trucker Tools’ “Where the Freight?,” where you can find out what to expect from freight markets across North America over the next five to seven day period. The upcoming Independence Day holiday weekend will be driving demand for reefer capacity in two key border cities this week, while one Midwest city’s power only market will be the hottest market for truckers and carriers this week. Though flatbed demand has cooled somewhat in recent weeks, two flatbed markets crack our Top Five Hottest Markets list, and one major Canadian market is projected to be the lowest demand/rate market for truckers and carriers in the coming week.

Scroll down to read the rest of today’s “Where’s the Freight?” to find out what else you can expect from freight markets across the United States and Canada this week.

Highest Demand

  • This week the two highest demand flatbed markets will be Shreveport, La., and Texarkana, Texas. Flatbed demand is projected to rise in the coming week for Southwestern Ontario.
  • Tucson, Ariz., is likely to be the highest demand/rate reefer market in North America over the next five to seven days. You also can expect demand for reefer capacity to increase this week to/from Dodge City, Kan., and Flagstaff, Ariz.
  • Denver and Fort Wayne, Ind., will be the top power only markets for truckers and carriers this week. Demand for power only is likely to increase inbound to and outbound from Jonesboro, Ark., and Wichita, Kan., in the coming week.

Lowest Demand

  • You may want to pass on flatbed loads that take you into Brooklyn, N.Y., and Washington D.C. this week, as demand for flatbed in both locations is projected to be very low.
  • Demand and rates for reefer capacity to/from Hartford, Conn., and Vancouver, British Columbia, are expected to be extremely low this week.
  • Demand for power only capacity to/from Norfolk, Va., and Jefferson City, Mo., is expected to decrease over the next five to seven days.
  • The Calgary, Alberta, dry van market is projected to be the lowest demand market in North America this week.

  • The Shreveport, La., flatbed market will favor carriers this week by a ratio of more than two to one this week.
  • The Port of Caddo-Bossier, which is just south of Shreveport, La., is a major distribution point for cargo headed to Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi and the Port of New Orleans.
  • As we head into the month of July later this week, produce season is in full swing in Mexico, Central America and across the Southern United States, which is driving demand for refrigerated capacity.
