WHERE’S THE FREIGHT

Welcome to the newest edition of “Where’s the Freight?,” Trucker Tools’ free freight forecast for owner operators and carriers. In each and every edition of “Where’s the Freight?,” you’ll find out where freight demand and rates will be highest and lowest over the next week.

In today’s freight forecast, you’ll notice that the Dodge City, Kan., reefer market is number one in today’s Top Five Hottest Markets list. What’s notable is that this number one market is scored with a 7.25 on Trucker Tools’ market index. In past week’s freight forecasts, number one markets often scored in the double digits. Lower overall scores on Trucker Tools’ market index indicate that demand for truckload capacity has declined across the board in U.S. and Canadian markets. Also of note in today’s freight forecast is that demand for power only capacity for Montgomery, Ala., is projected to increase significantly this week, while Gary, Ind., once again will be a hot market for dry van.

Where Demand/Rates Will Be Highest or Rising This Week

  • Flatbed demand and rates for Texarkana, Texas, and Rapid City, S.D., are projected to be very high. Demand for flatbed capacity to/from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Huntington, W.Va., is projected to increase.
  • Reefer demand and rates for Dodge City, Kan., and Texarkana, Texas, are likely to be extremely high. Reefer demand to/from Jonesboro, Ark., is expected to rise.
  • Power only demand and rates for Montgomery, Ala., and Omaha, Neb., are projected to increase.
  • Dry van demand and rates for Gary, Ind., likely will be high.

Where Freight Demand/Rates Will Be Lowest or Falling This Week

  • Flatbed demand and rates for Washington D.C., and Brooklyn, N.Y., will be very low.
  • Reefer demand and rates for Pittsburgh and Harford, Conn., are projected to be low.
  • Power only demand and rates for Little Rock, Ark., will be extremely low. Power only demand to/from San Francisco, Toledo, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas, is projected to decrease.
