Where’s the Freight? High Demand for Capacity for Texarkana, Dodge City, Decatur and Fort Wayne This Week

Welcome to your Monday edition of Trucker Tools’ “Where’s the Freight?,” your go-to source for information on where demand for capacity will be high and low in the coming week. In today’s “Where’s the Freight?,” one Southern market known as a major manufacturing and distribution center snags two spots in our Top Five Hottest Markets list, while Fort Wayne, Ind., is projected to be the top power only market for truckers this week once again. Also of note, two Canadian markets appear in our Top Five Coldest Markets list and Billings, Mont., will remain one of the least profitable reefer destinations in North America in the coming week.

Highest Demand/Rate Markets for Owner Operators and Carriers

  • The Texarkana, Texas, flatbed market will be the highest-demand market for owner operators and carriers this week. 
  • Demand for reefer capacity to/from Texarkana, Texas, and Decatur, Ala., is expected to be high this week. Demand for reefer capacity is likely to increase this week for Jonesboro, Ark., and Tucson, Ariz.
  • Fort Wayne, Ind., will be the highest-demand power only market for truckers/carriers over the next five to seven days. 
  • Demand for dry van capacity to/from Dodge City, Kan., is expected to be relatively high this week. Demand/rates for dry van are projected to increase slightly this week to/from Central Ontario.

Lowest Demand/Rate Markets for Owner Operators and Carriers

  • Demand for flatbed capacity to/from Edmonton, Alberta, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Montreal, Quebec, will be extremely low this week. Demand for flatbed will be decreasing this week inbound to and outbound from Rapid City, S.D.
  • You may want to avoid taking reefer loads into Flagstaff, Ariz., and Billings, Mont., this week as both are projected to be the lowest demand reefer markets in the country in the coming week. 
  • Demand for power only to/from Stockton, Calif., is projected to decrease this week.

Trucker Tools’ Market Insights

  • Based on the latest Trucker Tools data, these will be the five best destinations for truckers and carriers in the coming week: 1. Texarkana, Texas (flatbed), 2. Texarkana, Texas (reefer), 3. Dodge City, Kan. (dry van), 4. Decatur, Ala. (reefer), 5. Fort Wayne, Ind. (power only).
  • The five worst destinations for truckers and carriers in the coming week will be: 1. Edmonton, Alberta (flatbed), 2. Brooklyn, N.Y. (flatbed) ,3. Flagstaff, Ariz. (reefer), 4. Billings, Mont. (reefer), and 5. Montreal, Quebec (flatbed).
  • Demand for dry van capacity this week to and from Dodge City, Kan., is projected to be 14 times higher than it was in 2020.
  • The top industries in Texarkana, Texas, which is projected to be the hottest flatbed market for truckers this week, include lumber, sewer tile, rockwood, sand, gravel, mobile home and railroad tank car manufacturing.
  • Texarkana, Texas, which also is projected to be the top reefer market for truckers and carriers this week, is home to several commercial food and beverage manufacturers and distributors.
  • According to our friends at Schneider, compared to the Outbound Tender Volume Index levels during this time in the previous two years, the current OTVI is 22.67 percent higher than 2020 and 59.88 percent higher than 2019.
