Where’s the Freight? Ithaca, Texarkana, Tucson, Fort Wayne and Jonesboro Top Freight Markets This Week

Welcome to a brand new edition of “Where’s the Freight?,” Trucker Tools’ free freight market report for carriers and owner operators. “Where’s the Freight?” provides you with information on where demand for truckload capacity will be high and low over the next five to seven days. 

In the coming week, you can expect reefer demand to remain relatively strong inbound to and outbound from Tucson, Ariz. Power only demand is projected to surge upwards in several port/distribution markets including San Diego and Omaha, Neb. If you run flatbed, you’ll want to prioritize load to/from Ithaca, N.Y., this week, as demand and rates are projected to be strong. In dry van news, demand and rates for Edmonton, Alberta, are expected to increase over the next week while dry van demand for Flagstaff, Ariz., is likely to be very weak.

Where Demand/Rates Will Be Highest or Rising This Week

Flatbed demand and rates for Ithaca, N.Y., are projected to remain extremely high. Reefer demand and rates for Texarkana, Texas, Tucson, Ariz., and Jonesboro, Ark., are expected to be very high. Power only demand and rates for Fort Wayne, Ind., likely will be high. Power only demand for San Diego, Omaha, Neb., St. Cloud, Minn., and Dubuque, Iowa, is projected to increase. Dry van demand and rates for Edmonton, Alberta, are expected to increase.

Where Freight Demand/Rates Will Be Lowest or Falling This Week

Flatbed demand and rates for Minot, N.D., Brooklyn, N.Y., and El Paso, Texas, will be extremely low. Reefer demand and rates for Cheyenne, Wyo., are expected to be low. Power only demand and rates for San Francisco and Bloomington, Ill., are projected to decline. Dry van demand and rates for Flagstaff, Ariz., are likely to remain low.

Five Hottest Markets this week: 1. Ithaca, N.Y. (flatbed), 2. Texarkana, Texas (reefer), 3. Tucson, Ariz. (reefer), 4. Fort Wayne, Ind. (power only), and 5. Jonesboro, Ark. (reefer).

Five Coldest Markets this week: 1. Minot, N.D. (flatbed), 2. Brooklyn, N.Y. (flatbed), 3. El Paso, Texas (flatbed), 4. Flagstaff, Ariz. (dry van), and 5. Cheyenne, Wyo. (reefer).

Market To Watch: Over the coming week, demand for flatbed capacity inbound to and outbound from Ithaca, N.Y., is projected to be seven times higher than it was during the same week last year.

Today’s Specialty Crops National Truck Rate Report from the U.S.D.A. indicates slight reefer capacity surpluses in Central and Southern Florida and at Mexico border crossings through Southern Texas. 

This week, the Texarkana, Texas, reefer market will favor carriers and drivers by nearly three to one, meaning there should be three loads available for every refrigerated trailer headed into and out of the region.

recent forecast from the Energy Information Administration predicts that the average price for a gallon of diesel fuel will drop below $5.00 in 2023.
