Where’s the Freight? Jonesboro, Texarkana, Ithaca, Twin Falls and San Diego To See High Demand for Truckload Capacity This Week

Happy Wednesday and welcome to a new edition of “Where’s the Freight?,” Trucker Tools’ free trucking forecast for owner operators and carriers. In every edition of our free trucking forecast, you’ll discover where demand for specific types of freight will be high and low over the next five to seven days.

Looking ahead to the coming week, Jonesboro, Ark., is expected to remain a red hot market for power only freight, as it once again ranks number one in our Top Five Hottest Markets list. This week, reefer demand is projected to increase in several manufacturing and distribution markets including Dodge City, Kan., Tucson, Ariz., and Texarkana, Texas. If you run flatbed freight, you’ll want to target loads to/from Ithaca, N.Y., over the next week, as demand will be strong. For those of you hauling dry van, you may want to avoid loads into and out of Flagstaff, Ariz., this week, as demand and rates are projected to be low.

Where Demand/Rates Will Be Highest or Rising This Week

Flatbed demand and rates for Ithaca, N.Y., are projected to be high. Flatbed demand for Texarkana, Texas, is expected to rise. Reefer demand and rates for Texarkana, Texas, will be very high. Reefer demand to/from Texarkana, Texas, Dodge City, Kan., Tucson, Ariz., and Jonesboro, Ark., is projected to increase. Power only demand and rates for Jonesboro, Ark., Twin Falls, Idaho, and San Diego are expected to be extremely high. 

Where Freight Demand/Rates Will Be Lowest or Falling This Week

Flatbed demand and rates for Minot, N.D., and Brooklyn, N.Y., are likely to be very low. Flatbed demand for Huntington, W.Va., is expected to decrease. Reefer demand and rates for Pittsburgh will likely be low.  Power only demand and rates for St. Louis are projected to be extremely low.  Dry van demand and rates for Flagstaff, Ariz., are likely to be low.

Five Hottest Markets this week: 1. Jonesboro, Ark. (power only), 2. Texarkana, Texas (reefer), 3. Ithaca, N.Y. (flatbed), 4. Twin Falls, Idaho (power only), and 5. San Diego (power only). 

Five Coldest Markets this week: 1. St. Louis (power only), 2. Minot, N.D. (flatbed), 3. Brooklyn, N.Y. (flatbed), 4. Pittsburgh (reefer), and 5. Flagstaff, Ariz. (dry van).

Market To Watch: In the coming week, the Jonesboro, Ark., power only market will favor carriers and owner operators by a ratio of three to one.

Over the coming week, demand for reefer capacity to/from Texarkana, Texas, is expected to increase by 66 percent.

According to a recent Cass Information Systems report, recent declines in freight import volumes suggest that freight rates this month and in early 2023 are likely to decline further.

Enforcement of Canada’s ELD mandate is set to begin in some Canadian provinces beginning on Jan. 1, 2023.
