Where’s the Freight? Texarkana, Dodge City, Jonesboro, New Castle and Fort Wayne Highest Demand Markets This Week

Happy Friday! Welcome to the newest edition of Where’s the Freight?,” Trucker Tools’ free freight forecast for trucking companies and owner operators. As we look ahead to the upcoming final week of March, you can expect demand for power only capacity to be high in several areas of the Southeast and Midwest. In the coming week, demand for reefer capacity is likely to remain high for Dodge City, Kan., while Calgary, Alberta, will see extremely low demand for reefer capacity this week. With spring officially here and construction beginning in many areas, flatbed demand will be high or increasing in markets in Texas, New York and Arkansas over the next week. In fact, the Texarkana, Texas, flatbed market claims the number one spot in today’s Top Five Hottest Markets list.

Where Freight Demand and Rates Are Likely To Be High or Rising

  • Flatbed demand and rates for Texarkana, Texas, will remain elevated in the coming week. Flatbed demand for Ithaca, N.Y., and Fort Smith, Ark., is expected to rise over the next week.
  • Reefer demand and rates inbound to and outbound from Dodge City, Kan., will continue to be relatively high this week. Reefer demand to/from Texarkana, Texas, and Tucson, Ariz., is likely to increase this week.
  • Power only demand and rates for Jonesboro, Ark., New Castle, Del., and Fort Wayne, Ind., are projected to be high over the next five to seven days. Power only demand for Savannah, Ga., likely will rise in the coming week.

Where Freight Demand and Rates Are Likely To Be Low or Falling

  • Flatbed demand and rates for Brooklyn, N.Y., will be extremely low over the next week. Demand for flatbed capacity for Edmonton, Alberta, is expected to decline in the coming week.
  • Reefer demand and rates inbound to and outbound from Calgary, Alberta, Billings, Mont., and Southwestern Ontario are expected to be low this week.
  • Power only demand and rates inbound to and outbound from Jackson, Miss., are projected to be extremely low over the next five to seven day period. Power only demand for Fresno, Calif., is likely to decrease this week.

  • The five hottest markets for owner operators and carriers this week likely will be: 1. Texarkana, Texas (flatbed), 2. Dodge City, Kan. (reefer), 3. Jonesboro, Ark. (power only), 4. New Castle, Del. (power only), and 5. Fort Wayne, Ind. (power only).
  • The five coldest markets for owner operators and carriers this week likely will be: 1. Jackson, Miss. (power only), 2. Calgary, Alberta (reefer), 3. Billings, Mont. (reefer), 4. Brooklyn, N.Y. (flatbed), and 5. Southwestern Ontario (reefer).
  • Dodge City, Kan., will see high demand for reefer capacity this week, with demand expected to be two times higher than it was during the same week in 2021.
  • The latest Daily Market Update from FreightWaves indicates that national outbound tender rejections are down, while national volumes are up.
  • This week, the Savannah, Ga., power only truck to load ratio is expected to favor fleets and owner operators by nearly three to one.
  • The newest Specialty Crops National Truck Rate Report from the USDA indicates capacity shortages for Central and Southern Florida, as well as Eastern North Carolina.
